MEADOWS TOWN CENTER

Castle Rock, once heralded as the fastest growing city in the United States, is holding strong to this position as the transition point of the eastern open plains and the rolling hills at the base of the Rocky Mountains.  Existing at the crease of this spatial and physical change was the need for a non-imposing horizontal datum as a reference point to reinforce the natural landscape beyond.  Acting as that datum, the pavilion accepts the geological transition and allows for the subtle hills to become even more present.

Designed as the primary gathering space for a local community park, this pavilion projects employs rugged yet humble materials to contrast with the adjacent natural open space.  Individual steel and concrete elements acting in compression and tension become an honest reflection of gateway to the landscape beyond.  Custom concrete basins align with the floating slabs above to gracefully deliver water from sky to ground.  Landscaping architecture by Design Workshop round out the park as a new Castle Rock destination and neighborhood icon for the Meadows Development.
